9 Years Ago in April 2012, the 10-time Tony Winning Best Musical BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL exploded onto the L.A. Theatre scene at Hollywood Pantages Theatre for what turned out to be one of the most critically-acclaimed productions in the history of our theatre! Every night - was true electricity as Elton John's invigorating score was brought to life!
The journey to our celebrity-packed opening night was just as exciting!
THE STORY...
BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL is the joyous celebration of one boy’s journey to make his dreams come true. Set in a small town, the story follows Billy as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class, discovering a surprising talent that inspires his family and his whole community and changes his life forever.
Ben Brantley of the New York Times says that BILLY ELLIOT “Sends audiences into a mass swoon!” Time Out says it’s “The most electric and passionate show in years.” The Daily News calls BILLY “So exhilarating that you feel like leaping!” Liz Smith calls the show “Absolutely awesome,” The New York Observer raves that BILLY is “The best thing to happen to Broadway in a long while,” and WOR’s Dave Richardson cheers, “All I can say is WOW!”
CELEBRATING TUTU DAY...
In February 2021, two months before performances began - we realized something: WE NEED TO CELEBRATE TUTUS!! And what better way to celebrate TUTUs than on 2/2 - February 2nd! (Also Groundhog Day - but that musical hasn't played here yet.) On 2/2/12, anybody who showed up to the Hollywood Pantages box office wearing a Tutu scored TU for ONE TICKETS! And wow - did the press come out to celebrate with us that day!

TAKING THE SHOW ON THE ROAD...
In the months leading up to our opening night, BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL did a bunch of in-studio press! One standout morning was our appearance a few weeks before performances began on FOX 11's GOOD DAY L.A.! Check it out!
Bravo to Cameron Clifford and Ty Forhan! (We can't imagine doing this at 9 in the morning! But of course - these boys have youth on their side! As well as years of tap dance...)
THE STARS CAME OUT FOR AN ELECTRIC RED CARPET!
Stars from the worlds of dance, television, film, and of course Broadway came out in full force for the opening night red carpet! KTLA was on the scene, as well as our amazing house photographer Chelsea Lauren who really helped capture the energy from this opening night! Check it out! (One of the biggest highlights: the judges from Dancing with the Stars making it there! They all gave the show 10s all around!)
